There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling den betting is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are based in a relatively small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime location, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are ways around this, as is real of most border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling den, contains 150 one armed bandits and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel building that features a number of comforts accompanying the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
