There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is not legal. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling den, highlights 150 one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel building that contains many amenities accompanying the casino, which contains 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
